Hello, let me introduce myself - My name is Lindy Smith and my passion is designing and creating imaginative cakes. I was inspired by my own wedding cake, back in 1991, to take my first steps towards establishing my
self as a 'name' in the cake world. From humble beginnings in my kitchen, where I experimented with the techniques I had learnt, I soon discovered that sugar was the perfect medium through which to express my creative abilities and original ideas. |

Awards:
|
| In 1997 I entered my first competitions and much to my own amazement, received 3 gold awards:- Two for sugar flowers and one for a novelty cake (the Park keeper Cake below) at the British Sugarcraft Guild's International Exhibition. Spurred on by my success, over the next few years I took on the challenge of Salon Culinaire competitions and again won a number of gold and "best in class" awards for my exhibits. The cakes below are the ones I'm most proud of: 'Formidable Freda', 'The Cockerel' and a cake that is known as 'Lindy's Dragon'.

Magazine Articles: |
|
In 1998 I started writing regular features for "Cakes and Sugarcraft Magazine" which I continued to do for about three years, until the magazine went quarterly. More recently I have had cakes featured in of issues of "Wedding Cakes - a Design Source" and other bridal magazines such as "Wedding Ideas". Examples of these cakes can be seen on my gallery and Wedding Cakes pages.

Books: |
|
My first cake decorating book 'Hobby Cakes' was published in 2000. I have
continued to write books ever since, loving the freedom it gives me to be
highly creative and original. So far I have written eight books, please click on the covers below for more information.
There may be more in the pipeline - so watch this space! |

 CBBC's
Xchange - 2000th show
I appeared on this show's
2000th programme party on 1st February 2006, where I talked about my cakes and
demonstrated how to create a sugar pig. It was great fun being part of such a
big occasion. Instructions to make the pig can be found in "Party
Animal Cakes"

BBC Good Food Live.
(Sky digital channel 150, Telewest Active Digital 260 and ntl:home chanel 808) I made nine weekly appearances on this show in Spring 2003. It was fun to do and I hope I inspired those of you that saw me to experiment and try something new. |

BBC 1's Generation Game
I appeared on this show on the 16th March 2002 - Filming was a very interesting and amusing experience, so I hope those of you that saw the show enjoyed watching! |

Icing on the Cake I appeared on this Carlton Food network series in May 2001. It was a lot of fun. I had to make 2 cakes but only had 10 minutes to do each!! I demonstrated how to create Herbert, a frog novelty cake, from beginning to end. I started with how to draw up the design and finished with how to apply a glistening finish to make him look as if he'd just jumped out of the water onto his lily pad. Instructions for making him can now be found in my "Storybook Cakes" book.
My other cake was a much simpler fun face cake where I used flood painting techniques to decorate the board. This cake is in my "Quick and Clever Party Cakes" book.

Lindy's Inspirational Cakes Ltd: |
| I launched my
company Lindy's Inspirational Cakes Ltd - often shortened to Lindy's Cakes
Ltd in 2003. Initially personalised wedding cakes were the main business of
the company however as a direct response to my readers requests it has now
evolved into an online shop for all things cake
related.
In fact I no longer take on any cake commissions as I prefer to spend my
time teaching and writing. |
