Cake jewellery DVD photoshoot

Yesterday I took the main cake jewellery cakes from my cake jewellery gems DVD  to be professionally photographed. It was such a lovely day that we decided to create a lifestyle shot of one of the cakes and enjoy the sunshine at the same time….lovely!  Getting set up always takes ages. Here is Vicki in action, ascertaining the best angle to shoot from.

Wonky cake class – students at work

My wonky style cake classes have always been very popular; they are also ones of my favourite classes to teach. Students arrive not really knowing what to expect and go home having learnt not only how to carve and cover my signature style cakes but also armed with lots of tips and ideas to  help them decorate their own cakes. Friday’s class was no exception; as usual we had a… Continue reading

I love using patchwork cutters to help me decorate my cakes;  they are so easy and effective. I have used the clematis cutter on one of the demonstration cakes in my ‘Cake Jewellery Gems’ DVD. I think it works really well and is so simple.

Tips on using Lindy’s sugarcraft cutters

I know many of you enjoy using my stainless steel sugarcraft cutters, however if you are a little unsure on the best way to achieve perfect results each time then here are a few tips that you may find useful:

The pastes to use

  • Only use modelling paste, pastillage or flower paste to cut out the flowers – you need a firm paste

How do I make Sugarpaste?

Sugarpaste, also referred to as rolled fondant or ready roll icing,  is available from supermarkets and cake decorating suppliers in many countries of the world. However not everyone likes what is available to them and many countries new to the craft of cake decorating do not have a ready source of sugarpaste, so I’m often asked how is it made.

We are very lucky here in the UK we… Continue reading

Cake jewellery DVD – Rough Cut

How exciting – I’ve just seen the rough cut of my cake jewellery DVD! The film company say it’s   “…..a bit like offering a taste of a cake before its even half cooked” but who doesn’t like raw cake mixture?  I certainly have enjoyed seeing the ‘half baked’ DVD – just me in action, no graphics, music or cake close ups! It’s been very reassuring to… Continue reading

Cookie book – Write a review on Amazon

From all the fabulous comments and feedback that I received I know that many of you really enjoy my ‘bake me I’m yours….cookie’ book. It was a book I thoroughly enjoyed creating and I’ve still got the decorated cookie bug!  I’ve found decorated cookies make excellent small gifts….. what I do, is make a batch of different shapes

How do I get my sugar shaper to work?

Sugar shapers or clay guns, craft guns, sugarcraft extruders as they are also know are one of my favourite sugarcraft – cake decorating tools, one that I really wouldn’t like to be without! I use mine to add trim around the base of a cake, add fine details to a side of a cake where piping a pattern wouldn’t be easy, to create hair on my

Lindy’s cakes in Australian Bookazine

I have recently discovered that my ‘Storybook Cakes’ book has become a bookazine in Australia!  Basically a bookazine is a book/part of a book in magazine format.  From what I understand Storybook cakes has been used as the content of a bookazine published by Derwent Media called ‘Novelty Cakes’ and is currently on sale in Australia in newsagents

Cake DVD’s Title competition winners

Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to enter our cake DVD title competition. We loved reading through your all suggestions, some of them were very clever, some made us laugh, quite a few were inspired by Roald Dahl  – ‘Wonky Cake Factory’ or other books – ‘Jewels in the Crown’, for  the cake jewellery DVD title there was quite a bit of

Spring Cookie Decorating Class

Decorated cookies – what a great alternative to traditional Easter eggs, I’m sure the family and friends of Fridays students will be suitably impressed. Many students were completely new to sugarcraft so I think you’ll agree they did really well. We even had two ladies fly over from Majorca specially for the class!! – It never ceases to amaze me the distance that people travel to my classes, but

DVD Filming – Day Three – The Extras

Cake DVD filming – day three – this was my favourite day, because at long last I had the time to sit back and watch the crew at work, to appreciate their skills and learn more about what they actually do. The day started with Tammy from Magic Dust wedding planning, asking me cake questions that her brides often ask, Tammy is a wonderfully bubbly person
