Christmas Mini Cakes Workshop

Good things come in small packages… this is how I feel about the Christmas Mini Cake workshop! What a treat… what a fabulous idea. And, as per usual, they are amazing in true ‘Lindy Smith’ style. Continuing our Christmas workshop theme, these little beauties did not dissappoint. It was a bitterly cold day but we were cosily tucked up inside our wonderful village hall which was bursting with a festive atmosphere… the hall decorations, illuminated christmas tree and a super bunch of enthusiastic students.

Lindy started the class with the adornments for the cake creating snowflakes using her cutters. These snowflakes stand upright on the cakes which makes them a really effective piece. By adding sparkles they come alive. And because there are endless options for snowflakes no two are the same. She then moved on to the covering of the cakes.  A basic, but none the less important, process in sugarcrafting. Lindy and Sally ensure that you achieve the smooth professional finish which creates the best platform for adorning your cake.  Experimenting with cutters, patchwork cutters and piping, the cakes are really starting to take shape now. And with our new Patchwork Cutters Christmas Greetings and Christmas midi-set, you can emboss designs straight on to your cake. Lindy spent quite some time teaching the art of piping. She has wonderful tips for this technique, and yes practice does make perfect but it is wonderful to see a professional do piping work and it helps improve your own technique without a doubt.

Like our cookie classes you get to make lots of cakes on this course.  It gives you the chance to experiment with all sorts of designs and techniques. The diffence between cake number one and the last of the day is quite interesting. You really notice students finding their rhythym as the day goes on and individual styles become obvious too.

We’d like to say a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Claire who’s friends had clubbed together to give this workshop day out as a birthday gift. What a super idea.

These mini cakes make fantastic presents for family and friends living on their own, as this is cake enough for one! A hand made personlised cake… it doesn’t get more stylish than that!
