Originating in Scotland, houndstooth was originally made on woven wool cloth, but it’s since made its way to tweed and other fabrics. This is a fabric and pattern that dips in and out of fashion re-inventing itself every 20ish years. Houndstooth enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the 1960s when designer Anne Klein made women’s suits modelled on men’s styling using the hound’s tooth pattern. In the 1980s designers like Chanel picked up houndstooth check again and put their own stamp on the fabric. Fast forward to the Autumn/Winter collections filtering through today and we see this striking fabric featuring once again.
