Lindy’s Cakes Ltd grew from the fascinating cake decorating hobby of its founder LINDY SMITH. Lindy started cake decorating in 1991, however her original business really started with the publication of her first book in 2000. In this year she trained as a British Sugarcraft Guild demonstrator and in response to requests started to sell related products.
In the early years wedding cakes were the businesses priority, Lindy exhibited at the national wedding fair at Olympia in 2002. This was tremendously successful and lead to many exciting commissions and coverage in wedding magazines. However Lindy continued to write books and demonstrate which helped grow her customer base and her reputation.
Lindy’s Cakes became a limited company in 2003, the business at the time was growing on 3 fronts, the wedding cakes, the online mail order and her BSG demonstrations. In early 2005 the company started to hold workshops these were highly successful and continues to be so, with workshops now being held in all corners of the globe.
2007 saw a dramatic rise in online sales due to the business adopting a fully automated e-commerece site, so much so that Lindy stopped the wedding cake arm of the business at the end of the 2007 season. 2008 saw more growth in online sales and a fully functioning mail order department to compliment Lindy’s creative talents of:- cake design, book writing and teaching.
