Introduction to Celebration Cakes Workshop 27th Jan 2012

We’ve all got to start somewhere and Lindy’s ‘beginners’ class is a brilliant way to get you started with Sugarcraft. This is back-to-basics stuff but as Lindy is quick to point out “even if you have many covered cakes before this class will help you achieve that sometimes elusive professional finish”.

I am writing this blog ‘live’ sitting amongst our 10 lovely students. We had such good feed-back from… Continue reading

Introduction to Celebration Cakes 2: Sept 2011

Here we go again! Lindy’s ‘Introduction to Celebration Cakes’ workshop is so popular we decided we just had to run it again. Nine eager students, nine naked cakes ready for the Lindy Smith treatment!

This is the most fabulous course for the beginner sugarcrafter. It is basic cake covering at it’s best, the humble beginnings of sugarcrafting, and that’s exactly where Lindy starts.  Her ’back to basics’ approach works equally… Continue reading

Paste Patterning Techniques Class – September 2011

Such is the interest in Lindy’s approach to her work that she has created a collection of technique workshops. We trialled them last season and by popular demand have kept them on our Autumn workshop programme. I have a feeling they are here to stay!

The focus today was on patterning paste. Lindy’s love of colour, her eye catching colour combinations and her pattern designs are getting a lot… Continue reading

Introduction to Celebration cakes – 16th Sept 2011

Yay… our Autumn Winter collection of workshops have started ! ‘Introduction to celebration cakes’ is one of my favorite classes because our students arrive with a basic knowledge of sugarcraft, sometimes not even that, and leave with a beautifully covered cake and a pocketful of hints & tips. Lindy has perfected the step-by-step style of teaching ensuring that each step is manageable, not overwhelming, and that you have time to… Continue reading

Stencil Technique Workshop with Lindy Smith June 2011

This will come as no surprise to our cakefriends…Lindy loves stencils!  So much so that she created the ‘Stencil Technique’ workshop to devote a whole day to this stunning effective and, dare I say it, simple technique.  Our students adorned cupcakes, cookies and a celebration cake today. With expert tuition by Lindy, and a step-by-step format, our students had time to experiment with different patterns and colours. Lindy is well… Continue reading

New students create mini cakes

I love mini cakes; whether they are cute and adorable or bite-sized packages of sophistication, making and decorating mini cakes is always fun, there is no pressure, you can experiment with design and colour and if you’re not happy with the result it really doesn’t matter you, can always have another go! Which is why I always look forward to teaching  mini cake classes.

So what is a mini… Continue reading

Lindy’s Kissing Ball Cake Workshop May 2011

This was an eagerly anticipated workshop by Lindy and the workshop team, and we weren’t disappointed. The new Lindy Smith ‘Kissing Ball Cake’ workshop was an absolute joy!  The ‘Kissing Ball Cake’  idea is based on the Victorian wedding tradition of hanging handmade balls of flowers in archways, doorways or outdoors. They were also carried by flower girls at weddings. Lindy based her own design on this traditional floral arrangement… Continue reading
