Wedding and celebration cakes in Lindy’s flamboyant style!
The idea of stacked, or tiered cakes, we believe came from America. Certainly when the use of pillars and stands were the norm in the UK, our cake friends in the states were busy dwelling and stacking their tiers. Lindy remembers when this style of cake was first introduced that it was often referred to as the ‘American stack’. Today this style of multi tiered cake is what people expect when they think of a wedding cake or large celebration cake. We hope you feel inspired by Lindy’s examples below, some are actual wedding cakes, created in the days when Lindy took commissions, others appear in her many cake decorating books and DVDs. Colourful tiered cakes to celebrate!
“Well decorated cakes impress everyone, yet cakes don’t have to be complicated, simple embossing, using cut out shapes, moulds or stencils are quick and effective techniques that can be used to create stunning cakes. On the other hand I love ‘going to town’ with my cakes by using colour and shapes, pattern on pattern etc. To me a cake is an edible canvas that just has to be made to look gorgeous!!
My flower power cake to the right is my current favourite, it features in my ‘Contemporary cake decorators bible’ and fronts the cutter chapter. All the shapes on this cake are made using a host of different shapes of cutters – I hope it will inspire you to experiment to see what you can create yourself, with the cutters that you have in your tool box. ” Lindy
