Bite-sized cakes for one or two?

We love mini cakes here at Lindy’s Cakes! Whether they are cute and adorable or bite-sized packages of sophistication. Making and decorating mini cakes is always fun. There is no pressure, you can experiment with design and colour and if you’re not happy with the result it really doesn’t matter you can always have another go!

These little cakes make superb edible gifts. Simply place them in small transparent boxes tied up with bows or wrap in cellophane tied with flamboyant ribbons. They also make a very popular alternative to a traditional wedding cake. Mini cakes can be tiered on special stands with a small cutting cake on top. Once the top cake is cut the mini cakes are then distributed amongst the guests.

“So what is a mini cake? For me it has to be a small cake, such as a 5cm (2in) round cakes used in this example, however from my students I’ve learnt that everyone’s definition is different and many prefer the slightly larger 2.5in cakes or even up to a 10cm (4in) cake. I think the main aim of a mini cake is that it is personal, you make and decorate a mini cake to give to someone special to enjoy rather than a cake to share with family and friends.

I made my first mini cakes quite a few years ago by cutting up much larger cakes. Today however we are spoilt as purpose made multi-mini tins and shaped bakeware are now readily available, making baking and covering mini cakes so much easier!” Lindy
