Food and fashion… girls and handbags…a handbag that you can eat… now you’re talking! A wonderful cake carving course where you will learn how to carve your cake  effectively to create a bag with shape and style.

You do need to be comfortable with working with sugarpaste. It also helps to have carved at least one cake before, but not essential. A previous Lindy’s workshop would also be advantageous but not obligatory.

What the course will cover:

Lindy is detailed and meticulous in her approach to carving because this is the canvas to a fabulous looking cake. Getting this right is important,  so you will spend time learning and practising the skills by slowly carving your cake into shape. Then the fun begins with the covering and adorning of your handbag shaped cake. Lindy will share some fantastic tips and techniques for adding the special detail to your bag that makes it unique and different e.g. stitching,  trim, flowers.

What you can expect:

This is a fun but sometimes challenging class.  The focus is on carving, so Lindy has devised a step-by-step approach to this cake which means it becomes very manageable for all. Expert tuition by Lindy is the main focus of the day. As with every Lindy Smith workshop you will have Lindy and her team supporting you every step of the way. Our workshops are fun, informative and supportive. We pride ourselves on our ability to make our students feel at ease and encouraged, giving assistance where needed and space when not. You will end the day having created a stunning designer handbag cake and will have gained valuable sugarcraft knowledge, techniques and tips for use in all aspects of your sugarcraft. We want you to have fun, learn a lot and become a cakefriend of Lindy’s Cakes Ltd.

What you need to bring:

Once you have booked your place on the Designer Handbag class we will send you a comprehensive information pack including a list of what you need to bring.  Included in this list will be:

A 25.5cm (10″) square  Madeira or Chocolate cake (recipes will be supplied), a pre-covered cake board, sugarpaste, modelling paste, buttercream, plus tools and equipment that will be listed in your information pack.

N.B. Many of the items you will need can be purchased in advance from us – we give you a 10% discount on class pre-orders.

What our students say:

handbag cake“Just a note to thank you all for an absolutely fantastic course – I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed it, and I will definitely be back for more!!! – will just have to give the children some growing pills so that I can have a little more “time out”!!
Sorry that I had to dash off so quickly ……I have attached a picture of the cake – which I finished on Saturday morning. I gave it to a friend who comes from Trinidad – for her 50th birthday, she was thrilled to bits!” Joanna Haines

“I was on this course yesterday and I can highly recommend it to you. Lindy explains each step and follows through making her bag as her example. Lindy, Jane and Sally were there guiding and assisting at every stage of the masterpiece making. Lunch and ample flow of coffee and cake was delicious and completed what was a perfect day!” Julie Hanif

“I was on the handbag course on Friday too. This was the first time I have attempted to carve a cake. I was very impressed which how my cake had turned out and it was all down to how Lindy explained each stage throughout the day. I picked up some great tips. I really enjoyed the experience. The lunch was just what you needed and the slices of cake throughout the day were a lovely surprise! Thanks again was great to meet you all. Many thanks again” Claire Thomas x
