royal icing workshopLindy loves working with royal icing – it’s so adaptable! The techniques you will learn on this workshop will be applicable for not just large cakes, but also cupcakes and cookies – a truly versatile medium.


We know that it is the finishing touches that make a remarkable difference in sugarcraft, turning something ordinary into something quite fabulous. All three techniques you will learn on this workshop can individually transform a plain cake and put together they certainly have the wow factor!

This class is designed for most levels of sugarcrafter but some previous experience is heartily recommended. We have also found that it really helps students to have a Lindy class under their belt before coming on this workshop. Not recommended for absolute beginners.

What the course will cover:

On this course you will firstly learn how to stencil the sides of a covered cake using royal icing. You will then learn not only how to create beautiful brush embroidery but also how to join it together with  intricate piped linework, again using royal icing, to create an edible lace effect. Lindy will teach you how to make the most of these fabulous techniques.

This class is dedicated to royal icing. Lindy will explain and demonstrate how you can use these three techniques effectively and then give you expert  guidance so you can decorate your own cake using the demonstrated techniques. Expert tuition by Lindy is the main focus of the day, you will have Lindy and her team supporting you every step of the way. Our workshops are fun, informative and supportive. We pride ourselves on our ability to make our students feel at ease and encouraged, giving assistance where needed and space when not. black and white royal iced student cakeYou will not only end the day having created a magnificently decorated cake, but you will have gained valuable sugarcraft knowledge, techniques and tips for use in all aspects of your sugarcraft. What you need to bring:

This workshop will be a fantastic experience but you will need to come prepared. Once you have booked your place in the Royal Icing Techniques class we will send you a comprehensive information pack including a list of what you need to bring. Included in this list will be:

royal iced students cakesA pre-covered, 3-inch-deep straight-sided round cake, royal icing, basic tools including piping tubes and paintbrushes.
Please note: strong or dark coloured sugarpaste on your cake works most effectively to contrast with the white royal icing, which can get a bit lost on pastels.

N.B. Many of the items you will need can be purchased in advance from our shop – we give you a 10% discount on pre-class orders. You will be able to purchase a few basic essentials on the day, but do please come as prepared as possible!
